Chevy 454 to Allison three speed Automatic

I have a 1984 International Thomas built school bus, with a 345 international engine that I blew up. I have not been able to find a good 345 for any price that I am willing to pay. Does anyone know a part number or name of an adapter from a Big Block 454 Chevrolet to the Allison three speed Automatic transmission? Not sure of the transmission model.

Hmmm...the only Allison 3 speed auto I know of is the old V730 series which goes back quite a ways to the old GM "Fishbowl" bus days.

look in old truck junkyards for an 454 to sae bell housing, i assume the trans is a 545 industrial model. should be a lot of those in 24' box trucks from the late 80's before the 366 gasser and 8.1 gasser engines were popular.

545's are four-speed trannies.

Personally, if I were going to the trouble of swapping out the trans...I would not waste my money or time on either a 730 series or a 545. Both are dinosaurs and only rarely had special order lockup. Start by determining what SAE pattern you have on your engine...then look for a newer 4, 5 or 6 speed trans that matches. Preferably one with full lockup and possibly overdrive. If that gets complicated...then you can always start looking at adapter plates. As I recall, the majority of Allisons come as SAE #3 but there are other variants as well.

I have an SAE #3 Allison AT 545 sitting in my shop that even has a factory driveline park brake on it. You can have for free. Just come get it. They are so outdated they are hard to give away these days.

Have you looked on fleabay lately. 545s seem to be selling pretty well.

Tango, Where are you located? I would at least like to come look at it, and talk to someone that knows more than me about these things. Not swapping the tranny, but the motor from 345 International to 454 Chevy.

I have looked on Ebay, but when I look at the SAE #3 it just does not look right.

I'm confused here. Are you looking for an engine or trans?

A 454 for a 545? You'll never have confusion issues on that subject.

I'm in Houston , TX. I've not run the trans but it was attached to the excellent 4BT I bought and listed as "totally operational". Be happy to see it find a home. I hate scrapping anything that is even remotely functional.
