Looking at a bus with 6v-92..i think
So i found a bus that im gonna go look at, but i was wondering if any1 was familiar with the motor in it, or if this is actually the right motor...i guessed based off little google search of 552cid, but vin decoders have been wrong before. any known problems or things i should look for that are known issues?
Its an 85 international, showing low miles but has service records i can check out, and interior got remodeled in 2010 by the mechanic is what the contact at district said. floor is rhino lined, half seats are out and storage racks in back, but cant see it all in the pics. this is the vin 1HVLPHYN3FHA27997
Its got good tires, no rust and an at545, with a top speed of 68, didnt say what rpm

sounds like it may have the old IH 9 liter Diesel in it with a 552 cubic inch rating?
those were available in 85... looks l;ike a nice bus.. I rode an 86 to school and back my senior year. that looked just like that.. (was brand new then)

Looks good.
Does it give you the Orsepower of the engine?
Or rear end gear sizes.
When I went to the district for my bus they also had the original order build sheet for it that gave me everything that the bus was built with including part numbers on a lot of stuff.
I have the 8.2 in mine and the people that do have the 2-stroke detroits love them and all I have heard about them is that they require a strict maintenance schedule to stay healthy.
And in a lot/some areas finding a mechanic that even knows how to work on them as well as my 86-8.2 are getting few and far in between.
Good luck

thanks so much for the help yall! i just read into em a little bit, and it seems overall to be good engine. got a bad rep from people using it for heavy duty use, but not so bad with the school buses once they fixed their early head gasket issues (incase any1 else is curious about em)
i asked about the ratios, but that didnt get answered in the reply. im waiting to see when i can go look at it and ill take pictures of motor/tranny/rear data plates and everything i possibly can really, lol.

I would say that it is HIGHLY unlikely that you will find an AT545 behind a 6v92.
Even a low tune 6v92 would exceed the AT545s capabilities. More likely to find an MT730 or 740 if it has the 6v92.

Don't forget to take a flashlight and crawl under it looking for rust. And check the date stamps on the tires, even if they look good they can be aged out and a new set can run you a close to a couple of grand.
Happy hunting!

They are DOT mandated on all highway tires. Google "Tire Date Stamp" and there are a bunch of pages explaining them.
