2007 IC bus

VIN #4DRAPAFH57A347472
2007 IC bus,29 passenger
When I type in the VIN it tells me it has a 7.6L, what's your opinion on that engine? It has 168,000 miles and they want $4500.

Maxforce DT?

I believe that 2007 wWas The first year for DPF.

The general consensus here is that you are much less likely to have expensive failures if you stick with 2003 or older bus.

Unfortunately those are going to get scarce. We are going to have to embrace newer EPA buses at some point.

I remember when our gas vehicles first got computers and emissions equipment. It was AWFUL. eventually they worked the issues out well enough that we no longer avoid "electronic" gas engines.

I am optimistic that we will get there with diesels eventually.

If it's a pre-Maxxforce DT466, those aren't all bad. They simply have an EGR tacked onto a DT466. I want to say IC built those from 05-07 model years. Personally I'd take one of those motors over a VT365 from the same era.

If it's a DT466 then go for it. If it's a MaxxForce then run away!

I'm doing my first Skoolie. Despite people telling me not to, I went with a 2008 IC CE with the MaxxForce DT and 116,000 miles for $4,000 back in August. It had brand new Continental tires (which is about a $4500 value) and no body rust. As I'm pulling up the wood floor, still no body rust. What sealed the deal for me what that I was able to get the full maintenance history and the bus had the EGR Cooler and PCV Valve replaced about a year ago. I'm hoping that since that costly repair was already taken care of that I'll be good for a while.

As I compare this to older buses which cost twice the price, have old tires, have 250,000 miles and are full of rust, it became hard to pass up the deal. I'll see if I regret my decision down the road.

The other good thing with my bus is that they replaced the oil every 3000 miles, which is quicker than it really needed to be (from what my research has told me). I plan to continue doing that in hopes that it well help avoid issues with the emissions equipment. I already did my first oil change for $277.

I have an 08 IC CE300 with the DT466. The body is an 08, but it came from the factory with a 2006 DT466 (not maxxforce). So, its possible it still could be pre-Maxxforce even up to the year 2008. If the engine is painted blue, it should be pre-maxxforce.
