7.3 injectors

How much would injectors cost to replace? What do y’all think of price? Thank you for your time.

You'll have close to a grand in just injectors if it needs all 8. If you're serious about the bus, then you'll replace all 8 instead of only the ones that failed.

I'd say this one isn't worth it, keep looking.

I had to get a set put into my 97 Ford pickup after it stalled out on me and I couldn't figure what was wrong with it. Ended up costing me close to $3,000 due to sky-high labor rates that are the norm in my area. Knowing what I do now, I would've done it myself after getting the diagnosis to have saved a fair chunk of change.

I have an '01 IH with the 7.3 and the injectors for it are close to $200 *EACH* (and there's 8 of them). Budget $2000 for parts as you'll want to replace the valve cover gaskets/injector and glow plug wiring harness (which I understand to be sort of a "part of the job"), and this is assuming you do it yourself. It's an all day job and, as I'm told, within the realm of a reasonably competent DIY'er, it's just time consuming to do it.

if you can remove them they can be rebuilt for much cheaper. I sent mine out to rosewood diesel shop and it was 1500 bucks total. they rebuild them to factory spec and replace any badly worn parts. I think if everything is in good shape (meaning no new hard parts) the cost would be around 700 bucks.

Thanks for your opinions. I am in no way capable of doing the work, so I’ll have to pass on the bus. The owner says he has quotes from local shops between $3000-$4000. The work would have to be done before I could bring it home. That cost makes it out of my price range.

plus the engine really needs to be analyzed tio see if any damage occured from bad injectors.. 444E injector one flaw is that the nozzle leaks and drops fuel into the cylinders when it shouldnt and can dilute the oil with fuel.. .that east bearings up pretty quickly..



I have a friend with a 7.3 that runs with oil pressure around 20 PSI at max rpm because the bearings are so loose from a failed injector eating things up...



my new Alliant injectors were a couple hundred bucks a piece... one of these days ill get around to installing them..

im with you - one of my fav engines..



I have a special tool for pulling and installing those injectors.. i see everyone else use a pry-bar though... is there a reason i shouldnt use the injector tool?

Had a set put in my E350 and went ahead and bought new ones for$250 each. On an E you have to raise the cab to install passenger side injectors. New wiring harness under both valve covers is mandatory and would be foolish to not put new glow plugs in while in there. All fuel and oil has to be removed from every cylinder before turning over or will bend a rod by hydraulic lock up. I didn't do this job, had it done for me and cost almost $5000.....for a tune up!!!!!

raising the cab is not needed. you can simply remove the solenoid from the 1 or 2 injectors that hit the firewall. then reinstall the solenoids once the injector body is installed. I used this method last year on my e series.
