Whatcha wanna know?
Production ended on this engine in 1988 as it could not meet emissions standards coming into effect that year. Not terribly powerful engines but would run for ages as long as they were not run hot or low on oil. Early versions had head gasket issues but these were largely corrected by the mid 80's and most engines were repaired under warranty/recall.

Best bet is to boost the 7.3, there is tons of aftermarket support for this engine.

7.3>9.0
would be a downgrade.

Also, since the 9.0 ended production in 87, and was not used by Ford, parts availability is slim and I'm not aware of any performance upgrades. In fact, swapping a 9.0 to a 7.3 Turbo would be the improvement, not to mention having much greater parts availability.

Totally keep the 7.3L engine. The 9.0 is a good engine, but really dated. Also very thirsty!

So your engine is the one used by Ford, being that it is a F350 chassis, and not the T444. There are plenty of after market goodies for the 7.3. Look up Ford powerstroke forums and see what they have to say to make more power.
I do agree the 9 liter would be a step backwards
