Allison Transmission "Mode"??

I've had Periwinkle the Bus, my 2002 AmTran for almost three years now. Work on her really stopped with the onset of COVID a few months after I drove her home and has just recently started up again.

Perri's setup is pretty basic but I have gone on a few short trips, about four weeks total, and loved it. I will happily be fulltime beginning this Fall.

My question has to do with the attached photo. I have never pushed the Mode or up & down arrow buttons. What do they do? Please be kind.

Thanks.

Michelle

p.s. She still has her governor on and I'm happy to go 55 mph or less, especially with the current price of diesel.

mode typically chooses eco mode which will hold gears a bit longer before it downshifts. Up and down will allow you to lock that gear in. Say your going down a mountain and you dont want to let the bus speed up, you can push down when you are already in a low gear and it will hold it. So if you go up in third gear, arrow down to 3 for the way down. Once you are at the bottom click up until you get to 5 or 6.

Here is a link to the Wtec 3 shifter user manual. You will find a nice detailed explanation on your question.

Here is a more detailed manual

Hope this helps!
