I tried connecting the two yellow wires from the tcm harness to ignition power. Still limping along. After re-reading this thread it seems I have to also connect ignition power to 113 and 13J! So four wires to ignition source total. What kills me is the pin outs do not show this! Also, my two yellows have different number (not 102 nor 104). For check trans Dave cab you verify if it was 94 or 92 please? What about blue 62k?

So 3-4 hours spent on the bus this weekend and I got nowhere… I have the donor ecm originally mated to my a2000 so programming should be good as far as that goes. Thanks for any help.

I have 2 months to figure this out or I will have to take a loss and salvage the bus…

ill jump on when i get home later and see if I can find anything in my wiring diagrams.. I remember pink and red power but not yellow specifically.. doesnt mean its not there.. Navistar seems to be a bit lacking on some of the diagrams when the A2000 first came out.. my guess is the demans was high for it at release so they built a lot of trucks and bus chassis before they got the docs sorted out

ok diverdude I think I am making progress, if this next thing I say was common knowledge I did not know it lol. The TCM J1 gray plug is numbered 1 thru 32, I know that but I didnt know the wires followed the same pattern. like the number 1 pin hole make the wire coming out of the back 101 the number 2 pin is 102 and so on. The numbers also line up with my colors. The ones I have highlighted, I got under the bus and tore my TCM plug apart so I could see the numbers on each wire vs which pin hole they were in in the plug. I hope this is making sence to you because it is starting alittle to me lol. so far mine are coming out right even the 125 green is the check trans. see my pictures, I will keep digging and keep you posted.

Ok new update the yellow 102 and 104 right out of the J1 gray plug showed perfect continuity with the 13J pink wire that was supposed to go into the dash so I found a keyed hot wire and ran it thru the firewall and hooked it to the pink 13J which would feed keyed 12 volt to my TCM when I turned the key on. So the only other wire I have hooked up from that harness going into the drivers area is the green 125 and that is hooked into the tan or brown 92a that is also hooked to the blue wire and when I did all that my check trans light came on. So now I just need to figure out why my new software Allison doc pro with the nexiq adapter wont connect to my bus. I hope some of this is helping you even if its just a little. I don't want to give up!!

I opened the wiring I have and the circuit numbers on mine are different than your harness numbers .

How are you trying to connect DOC to your transmission? I’m assuming you have connected the yellow green and black J1939 wires from the harness to the connector tor at the engine ? And that your diagnostic connector under the dash is a 9 pin and has the J1939 pins run? The Che k trans light will come on for no J1939 comms from engine to trans

I did not realize I had to convert it to 9 pin for me to be able to hook into it with my allison software the nexiq adapter has a 6 pin plug that I plugged right into my diag port.

Yes, this is also in my thread

I literally swapped the 6 pin to the donor bus, and put the 9 pin into the Vista

all that was required was solder the 6 pin connections back where they went on mine, the other 3 were part of the TCM for a total of 9

and then on the donor bus I just soldered in the 6 pin plug in... it was pretty obvious the 3 wires came from the TCM

then it should talk

J1939 and j1708 protocols are both on the 9 pin plug. J1708 is only on the 6 pin, j1939 not available. Your allison tcm communicates on the j1939 to both the engine ecm and to allison doc/the scan tool. I believe servicemaxx communicates to the engine on j1708.

Without the 9 pin, I don't think you'll ever connect to the allison tcm.

I had a nice long update that the forum ate.. im really hating the ads in this forum.. id gladly pay to use it if I could get rid of the ads that trigger a browser reload and delete my updates.

booyah touched on it the 9 pin has both J1708 and J1939 pins wired out. its a data Bus meaning you can connect multiple devices in parallel along it including scan tools..

starting in mid-late modek year 00 IH started equipping all vehicles with a 9 pin anticipating transmissions and ABS controllers that would communicate on J1939.

you can buy a pin tool and also a 9 pin connector and move your pins from the 6 pin over to a new 9 pin and then wire in the pins from the J1939 data bus into that 9 pin connector. allison DOC and servicemaxx both can plug into the 9 pin.

so you can effectively create a Y connection of the 2 or 3 wires from the CAN data going from the trans to engine and Y those off to the new diagnostic port

this is a step I skipped on mine because im 4th gen with 2 CAN ports thus I have a separate place to talk to my trans.. 3rd gen doesnt do that.

Chris, do you have a link to purchase the 9 pin port?

Fingers crossed!!

this is one similar to what I bought.. (mine is green)..

https://www.amazon.com/Deutsch-Diagn..._t1_B07CX65KD7

and some extra pins just because..
https://www.amazon.com/Deutsch-Genui...ronics&sr=1-13

those are for crimp type pins.. you can get the solid solder type if you are running solid wire.. they are there.. I just post mainly for example..

Ordered

Thanks everyone! Thanks for the link Chris! I have ordered my 9 pin connector. That pin out diagram will help too. Looking at the diagram, I have questions.

Hit 60 mph!!! Speedo works now! Bus has a ton more power!

Connecting the pink wire 13E from the TCM harness to ignition 12+ did the trick! I am so excited right now! At 60 mph my rpms were at 2000. Before, with the AT545, rpms were at 2200-2300 at around 53 mph.

I used the donor ECM so the settings should already be good. My check trans light still isn’t coming on. I’ve got green 125 from the TCM connected to tan 92a. I will try changing out the bulb next time I’m in there.

I’m still going to install the nine pin connector. I can move forward on some other stuff on the bus now I know it will operate properly!

Thanks everyone!!!
