So I am doing my maintenance today on big ol girl and they swore up and down that the Napa gold filter 3818 would be the fit for my fuel filter. I’m struggling with it. Is that right one?
I live on an island so Napa is the only game in town.
Help. Also the filter part of it is much smaller than the filter I took out. The Napa one has the cartridge and the cap attached.
Thank you in advance!
Laura

Get the part number off the old one to match up a new one, take the old one with you to the parts store. I would stop with the one you have if isn't a matching unit, return it for a correct replacement.

Oil overfill

I did get the oil changed yesterday and I overfilled the oil cause I must have checked the dip stick before all had leveled out cuz I thought I was good. I thought it took between 16-20 quarts and I put in about 18. Shall I drain some out? Or is that ok?
Thank you!

I’ll try and not be so high maintenance for awhile.

Well, you're learning and now you know enough that you won't do that again. That's progress, congratulations.

When I changed the oil in my Cummins the first time, actually the only time so far, I researched the capacity and came to the conclusion that I needed 6 gallons. But to be cautious I just put in 5 gallons and saved the last gallon until I was sure everything had drained down. I still have that gallon because 5 gallons came to about a sixteenth-of-an-inch over the full mark. If I had put in as much as my internet research led me to believe I should then I would have had a big mess to deal with.

I've got a 0% record getting the RIGHT filters at NAPA. The guys that work there at my local store are just dicks.

Here in my hometown NAPA and their competition are on the same street, less than a block apart. There's a big difference in the demeanor of their counter staff. I never go in that NAPA anymore, but in a bigger town 20 miles away, I find NAPA staff to be top notch, very helpful, so I do go there sometimes. So it would appear that there are variations in the corporate culture of NAPA.

LOL!
These guys don’t fall into that category because they are helpful, but maybe just lacking knowledge.

Good to know!
I’m just wondering if I need to drain? I am really hoping that all of y’all say no. Lol

I don't know if it's essential to drain that extra. I do have a tendency to be over-cautious or over-zealous about such things, but I would drain it.

[edit] How far is it above the full mark? That's important and you don't say in your post that I just read again.

For years I wouldn't go to NAPA because you pay 50% of the price for the name. But when I went looking for fuel filters for the bus, I was surprised to find some on line from NAPA for $8 when everyone else wanted $20 and more. I decided to check the new NAPA store to find they also had them for the $8 price, I bought 3 of them.

Thank you for posting this information. We own a 2000 International with a 7.3 Diesel as well. It took about a year and a half to convert it. We are on our first trip now, driving from Georgia to Washington State.
