Bus Drops from 55 Mph to 45 Mph and back, huh?

Hey All,
Just bought a 1985 International 9 liter diesel. Test drove it and it ran fine, got up to 60 Mph. However, after buying the bus and driving it home it seemed sluggish. It got up to 55 Mph for awhile but would then drop to 45 Mph. After 10 mins or so it would get back up to 55 Mph then drop down again. The bus had sat for over a year, perhaps there's algae in the diesel that's clogging the filters. I put 15 fresh gallons of #2 diesel before driving it home. Any thoughts? Also the battery is about toast, but don't think that has anything to do with acceleration, only cranking the engine over. Thanks.

I would say that your initial assessment (clogged filters) is pretty much dead on. Filters won't clean themselves, no matter how much clean diesel you have, so might as well start pulling and changing filters. Have fun.
And incidentally... WELCOME TO THE MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time for filter change

A fuel filter can become clogged with a single fillup. Filters are cheap at a parts store but really expensive on the road after engine quits. Also add some diesel fuel elixer named Power service, available at Walmart. I have used this product for about 6 years and the product is great. I could nearly feel and hear the engine performance get very good in power and economy. There also many other fine fuel additives. Use Power service at twice the recommended dose for the first 5 tankfulls. All my diesels get this magic. Frank
