Can someone help me determine if this bus has the bad Maxxforce engine or not?
How do I figure out if this bus has a Maxxforce engine or not? I have the VIN. I can PM it. It’s a 2006 with a DT-466. It says Maxxforce DT on one of the VIN checks but I wasn’t sure because the bad ones started in 2007. I wanted to make sure this wasn’t one of those.

Displacement (CI) 466

If you have a pic of the engine - If it is painted blue, it's still the DT variant. If it came from the factory painted black, RUN! It's the full-on MaxxForce.

If it's a 2006, it is probably a DT466e, not a Maxxforce.
Is the Maxxforce DT466 bad or not? Depends who you ask. There are issues with the EGR cooler. Fixable. The bad reputation of this engine is mainly because 1. the Maxxforce 11 and Maxxforce 13 were subject of a lawsuit for EGR related issues (these engines have nothing in common with the Maxxforce DT466) and 2. a LOT of people who never actually owned a Maxxforce repeat what they read everywhere. That's how it is nowadays

All that. Ditto.
Similar to a young man I met in basic training who had never met a 'real live' black person. Boy he sure had alot of (mis)information. Was quite, sure of his beliefs, too. His daddy told him.
Bearing false witness:
Did I, myself witness? No? Then I don't know if the words I speak/write are true. Just gossiping, maybe lying.
If IH or Navistar, block will be:
Black =MF
Blue = DT(e)
IH Red = Agro

I've never read a more succinct summary of the MaxxforceDT hate.
With that said, I would not at all touch a MaxxforceDT 2010+ when they added compound turbo and switched to common fuel rail.
But, I am ok with the deal I got on my 2009 MaxxforceDT.
It does have the DPF they added in 2007 (pretty sure this was the branding change as well), but I got a newer rust free chassis and a very low mile engine.

🤩 Starry-Eyed Dreamers
MF Value=Scrap weight.
Don't pay more than $2000 for a bus with a Maxipad engine of any year or size. These are a terrific option for a chicken coop, gotham, or shed. No good as a functioning RV or rolling home.
Hopeful, yet unexperienced noobs, who haven't had the opportunity to bear withness, ought not even testify.
When reading testimonials, I consider if I'm being offered speculation, eye witness or false witness.
In the court cases referenced above, evidence was provided and Navistar disputed the claims. The jury decided the outcome. We know that as the truth. The 12 members of the jury decided the truth on that day. That truth will not change, no matter how ignorant or unread, I choose to be.🤷

I am a noob and also all about learning and the internet is light on information for this and it sounds like you can help me out here. And if it shits the bed, I'll drop a DT466E reman in it
What significant mechanical changes occurred from (Blue) DT466E 2006 to the (Black) Maxxforce branded DT 2007-2009? Other than DPF added?
I will need to know these things since my engine is going to blow soon. I would like to know what to lookout for.
