Cause / Solution gauge inaccuracy / floating (3800 w/ t444e)

I've read a lot of comments here about Navistar gauges and inaccuracy. Now that we have our bus I see it first hand. Our gauges (not just one of them - pretty much all of them) tend to 'float' over a pretty large range. I can't really be confident in any of their readings.

What are the causes of this apparently common problem? And what, if any, solutions exist? Is it mechanical or electrical (or both)?
