I know that coolant does have a major part in the coolant system! I just dont believe it would matter in this particular scenario. I've spent hours trying to figure out the best coolant to use and have ended up deciding (I think!) To go with the dealer recommendations and use the extended life red coolant.......

Lets hope so.
These engines really don't like being overheated and are very sensitive about the coolant quality.
Once you get it all figured out get the coolant mix perfected for maximum engine longevity.

I agree in this case it is irrelevant. But your statements show your ignorance on the basics of auto maintenance.

I'm not really sure which statements your speaking of but in the end it also doesnt matter. I have admitted to my ignorance along with the fact that I'm not a mechanic. Also let's face it, if I knew everything I wouldnt be on here letting you point out my ignorance!

Just don't bite the hand that feeds. Everyone here has useful and useless trivia to add. If the response doesn't suit you, just move along, it's the internet of which we have no control.

It was a joke!

At 1500 rpm, any non foaming liquid would have cooled it if the system had good circulation.

Just read through this thread.... congratulations on getting it running! Just to play devils advocate, running a DT466 without the proper mix of coolant or proper mix of SCA’s will result in cavitation. This will occur even at 1500rpm. Very limited running in that condition may not hurt it too much. Just be aware that cavitation can and will destroy cylinder sleeves in short order if left unchecked.

Update:

Alright guys I got the thermostat changed last night but sense I have the front end torn apart and no headlights I couldn't road test it. I just got back driving about 15 miles (it would previously overheat half way through this "route") and did not get above 200 degrees! I cut apart the old thermostat and believe I see why it was stuck closed. I can not tell you guys how much I appreciate your input and a very special thanks to all of you who continued to help me without trying to make me feel like a tard! Even though in the end I may be one! Now I'm going to drain and fill with a 50/50 coolant ratio and hopefully will be running smooth. Thanks again everyone !

Don't know about the mangled gasket, but as long as it's out why not throw it in a pot of boiling water and see if it opens? Just for shits and grins. I think I remember testing my car's thermostat in that manner when I was in high school in the 80s.

Yeah, I've done that before but these thermostats are different. That why I cut it open. There is a spring with a plunger kind of end but there is also a second spring inside the cone. I was confused because I couldn't blow through the thermostat once removed so cut it open to see the inside.
