One suggestion would be to check electrical. Take a peek in the fuse box and see if there are any blown fuses or relays that had gone bad. (I had that happen where a blown relay and fuse prevented my VT365 from even cranking or buzzing the injectors)
Since you were taking out emergency windows and hatches, and it’s an RE, I would check if perhaps one of the emergency doors had an interlock on it. (It’s the mechanism that doesn’t allow the engine to crank over if the emergency door is locked and I’ve seen a lot of older buses have it)
Those two would be my best suggestions, along with checking the engine start panel in the back of the bus and possibly cycling through the gearshift on the dashboard.
