Feedback on a DT466E 2002 Year Specifically

I have a lead on a bus with a 2002 DT466E and just over 100K miles. I am aware of both the timing cover and coolant issues seen with this motor. Is there anything else I need to be aware of for this motor and especially for this year?

Thanks Patrick

Its a good engine. If that mileage is correct that would be awesome. Have you verified the mileage?

Charlie is the only one I know of who had timing cover issues. I don't think it inherent to that motor.

There were plenty of folks getting the TSB fix at their dealers for that very issue on their DT's. Not the mechanical engines. Just the "E".
There wouldn't be a TSB if it were just mine and if it weren't inherent.

But the OP knows about this and has said to mention OTHER problems so I'll just leave it at that. Anyone who wants to find out how fun it is can google it.

DT466E Inframe

I have a 2000 DT466E and have it apart due to it getting overheated. This engine has a very good reputation. From all the techs and charter bus owners I have spoken to say the same thing"Great Engine, just dont over heat it even a little". Mine got hot at some point and baked the cylinder O rings and started leaking coolant into the engine oil. The piston scored the cylinder pretty bad as well.

Now Im not down on the engine, its not a design flaw, its a operating issue.

Im converting my bus to the International 4900 full width radiator and charge air cooler for added protection and peace of mind. Its a 4 row radiator. It probably doesn't need it if you drive conservatively but Im paranoid.

Can the 4900 parts be easily swapped in? I know FEs are a bit cramped.

It looks like the Radiator and CAC are reasonably priced.
