Gear box rebuild - Seattle/Tacoma

We pulled my overly leaky steering box out of the bus this weekend and I could use a bit of help finding someone to do the fiddly bits for me. Obviously expecting to pay for the privilege of not doing it myself. 😁

Can anyone recommend an individual or shop they like for this kind of thing?

Where's it leaking at? When mine leaked it was out the sector shaft seal. I simply polished off the rust, installed a new seal, and was good to go. Steering boxes really aren't that complicated

I think you'll have trouble finding a shop that's willing to rebuild. Most places are just parts swappers and won't want to deal with it.

Good luck with the search!

I bought a seals set and a parts manual. Read the manual and decided I was in over my head. Anyone want seals and a manual for a hfb522991 gear box? LOL

Ended up taking it Redhead Steering Gears in Auburn. They were super nice and had it done in 2 days. They painted it purple for me too. Paid a bit more than I expected but I didn’t have to pay to ship a 60lb+ part, so I figure it works out.

After the fact, a friend recommended a place called Dirk’s for that kind of work. I think they mean Dirk’s Truck Repair off of 512.
