The good news.

So i put it on the charger for a couple of hours last night. Before doing so i put a volt meter on the batteries and they read 12.6. Anyhow not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I dont think i was pressing the brake when I tried to start last time. Cranked over a couple of times and got it started.

The bad.
After a mile lap up and down hills around my subdivision, it is obvious something is wrong. Had tons of smoke coming out of pipe. By the time i pulled into the drive things weren't sounding great, kinda clunking.

No overheat and never saw a warning light come on.
Thoughts on what to do next. I get that scan gauge in tonight if that helps to check anything.

If there no ' Warn Engine' light on, but there are engine issues, there's 2 possibilities:

1) warn engine light bulb is burnt out/not working... putting the Scanguage will fix that and you should able to see any fault codes and start from there...

2) there is a serious mechanical issue that the computer cannot see... this could be something simple like a fuel pump or clogged fuel filters, or unfortunately, something more serious... hope its not the latter!

Good luck!

Thanks, I hope not too.

I am pretty sure it isn't 1 because when i initially turn the key on, the warn turns on for a bit then goes off.

What color is the smoke?

Does the exhaust smell of unburned diesel?

If you haven't yet, I would start with the simple. Give it an oil change and put new fuel filter/water separator.
Additionally, you could possibly have bad fuel? Put some fresh diesel and/or some additive. Power Service is a good additive and you can get it at most auto parts places or Walmart...

112 is Over-voltage on Bat+ circuit going to the ECM.
253 is an Injector Drive Module related code..

did you jump it with a jump booster that puts out 16 volts or more? when its running what does the scangauge say the bat voltage is?

im assuming you arent jumping it externally and running it with a battery charger conected also..

I can try to start it up again and see the voltage. Worried about running it with all that smoke that I was screwing something up worse

Check your filters, air and fuel. Check fuel quality - since your fill in October, it should be OK but just for the purpose of troubleshooting ...

Code 253 - injector drive related. I'm not sure about the details of this, but a possible cause, sure. How's the power? Plenty of power, or barely move power?

Are you hearing the turbo spool up? No power, tons of smoke, no turbo whine, three major symptoms of a blown or otherwise inoperative turbo. It may also dump oil into the the intake or charge-air-cooler (as appropriate) if the turbo is blown. If the turbo has an actuator (many do) check that too.

Thanks, definitely seems like a loss of power.
I am pretty sure however when i took the trip a couple of nights ago that i heard the turbo winding up going up a hill.

I am working on getting some new filters,

Most diesels, number one symptom of clogged fuel filters - it'll have power on flat ground and going downhill, but accelerating or going uphill, it'll lose power and speed to the point of barely moving. Usually little or no smoke though.

I had one truck that had a nasty habit of eating turbos, and the primary symptoms for a failed turbo is little power, and tons of thick smoke. Turns out that particular engine (ISX Cummins) had an EGR issue which caused it to eat turbos. Sometimes the turbo actuator wasn't doing its job, giving the same symptoms (but the turbo itself was fine).

Look into that injector pump code, whatever it was. Bad/failed injector pump sending tiny bits of metal into injectors can cause this too (I hope this isn't the case for you).
