My timing cover is toast and the dealer wanted $9300. That's not even a rebuild. That's just the front covers.
I'm looking at a bus that has most everything I want, 8.3 engine, length, west coast. But it has 281k. I'd like to buy with preparedness to rebuild if necessary, I have zero mechanical experience bur part of buying a bus is for me to learn. I want to maintain my own home in as many ways as possible. Can I learn what's necessary, follow some books or youtube guidance when the need for a repair or rebuild arises? Its a 93 if that helps, what questions should I ask to make sure it's one that doesn't need the computer to solve everything?

that 8.3 is a better engine. In 93 you have zero chance of it not being mechanical. No computer on that one.

Right no computer on that one. A factory service manual for the engine is your best friend.
