How to start a bus that has been sitting?

Hello.

I recently acquired a 1997 International. I got it for free. Apparently the owner went to burning man and never returned. A few years passed and the property was sold and bus listed for free on craigslist. So I got it towed home.

I've lived in a van before, but this bus is an enigma to me. It obviously doesn't start up, but I was told the engine is still good. Was also told there might be an oil pan leak. What should I do to get this boy running again? Charge batteries and change out fluids? I'm a complete noob here, but am eager to learn.

Any info is appreciated!

Make sure there is fuel in the tank. Check the oil and coolant levels. Charge batteries overnight or just replace if old. Crank that beast over with 15 second starter intervals. Hope it runs for you! If it starts, check for oil and other fluid leaks as it warms to operating temp.

first start in a while

There is a way to do this, so that, if this is a no go, then expense spent is at a minimum.

first question... how far in to engines does you knowledge go?

Really, it would depend upon what engine is in the bus.

If it's a T444E, they were known for cam position sensor problems that would cause an otherwise good engine not to start.
