Thanks Booyah, I read through plenty of the discussions and didn't notice he wasn't active on the thread at all. But, I had figured on the collective nature of this format to come up with some possible solutions. So thanks for the suggestions. The pulleys all appear dead on, no wobble, no discernible angles on their faces but a laser alignment tool may have something else to say. I'm also curious about original routing and original pulley size (replaced around 80k, I think).

I have an old 60s model international chassis I'm guessing an 185 but it's a Thomas body. The VIN is seriously messed up or filed away except the numbers FD8187 it's a flat nose. With the red diamond rd450 5+2 tranny. Any help would be amazing. Def. A manual and parts manual.

Hi. Thank you for making yourself available to this community, you are appreciated! My question is simple,
What size wrenches do you use to work on international trucks? I have a 1998 4700 with the t444e engine and im looking to purchase a wrench set, but I'm not sure which way to go. Should I purchase a set or just get the ones I know I need and will actually use?

I have a craftsman set that is 14 pieces with everything from 3/8 to 1 1/8, I actually also have a 2 inch wrench and a 5/15 and 1/4 wrench as well i carry with me..

my garage is full of tools so i have many more in there.. (im a tool geek). I also have the metric 14 piece set but I rarely use metrics on the 3800's .. 1/2, 9/16. and 5/8, and 3/4, I carry doubles of because often you need a wrench on front and on back of the same bolt.

of course I carry a ratchet set or 2 on trips as well.. I find I use the main sizes of 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, and 3/4 the most but there are times the other sizes come into play for such things as suspension, brakes, wheels, etc..

a hammer and a couple pry bars come in handy too. as well as a couple sizes of vice grips, channel locks, and adjustable wrenches.. I try not to break down on the road (fix things before they break all the way).. but sometimes it just happens and so I like to be able to fix the somewhat simple things.. but i dont try and carry a whole tool shed in the bus..

Radiator on 2008 rear engine

We have a 2008 rear engine international IC. Driving it home the shroud busted off, hit the fan, broke the fan which then flew into the radiator and busted it. Not sure if the radiator can be repaired or needs full replacement. I am wondering if removing the radiator is an “ easy” task or does the bus have to be jacked up high enough to get it out the bottom? Also how to remove the fan & replace it.

I need a little help. Just bought a 1994 international. In the beginning stages of conversion. How do I lift the air bags higher in the rear from the current position? The front is higher than the rear. Thanks

Hi Tiffy, my first question would be...are the rear air springs (air bags) inflating? I've owned 3 of the '95 model of this bus and all three sat obviously higher in the back when inflated. But they sat low when aired down. So, does the rear end rise after you idle for a while and the system pressure gets above 90 psi or so?

There are leveling valves in the back, above the rear axle, which have small rods that connect the arm on the leveling valve to the body above. If those valves are damaged or the rods aren't adjusted right, the ride height will be off. And that's a pretty easy thing to adjust or fix.

92 Intl 3900 Rear differential rebuild

1992 International 3900FC Carpenter Counselor FE DT466C Allison MT643

Recently drained rear differential and discovered a broken off gear piece 2-5/8” long (pic).

I’m trying to find a video or service manual to help guide with the order of breaking down a differential where chunk access and the drive train connection are located on the same side of rear axel. Every YouTube video I’ve watched, the chunk is broken down from the back side opposite the drive train connection.

I have a schematic (pic) of rear axel for my bus axel - 14ADD.

Hope I’m using the correct terminology.

You make sure the bus cannot roll-- chock the front wheels, park between two bulldozers, or whatever, pull both rear axles, disconnect the driveshaft where it attaches to the rear axle, and then reove the "pumpkin" bolts and pull the pumpkin. You will need a transmission jack or something to support the pumpkin/center section/ or whatever you want to call it.

I am going to guess that a used gear set from a junk yard will be cheaper than a new ring gear and pinion. HOWEVER-- maybe that piece of gear was from a previous failure, and accidentally got left in there.

Re: 92 Intl 3900 Rear differential rebuild

PorchDog: Appreciate the advice. Gathering fat wood blocks; plan to raise and crib block bus before disassembling. Believe I have access to a transmission jack but will most likely need to fab my own plate to secure the pumpkin. I’m hopeful that the broken tooth may have been left over from previous rebuild. Took a gamble this morning and moved bus to my house (with tools) 220 mi away. First hour kept speed under 30. Gradually increased. Last hour, bus avg’d 56 and no problems. Will find out as soon I get it up in the air and locate the transmission jack.

Hi, I searching for help on the 2013 International Bus with MaxxForce 7. Few recommended me to run away from it , that its a very bad engine but the bus is in a very good condition with 153k miles. Is it really that bad of an engine? Is there anything I can update or upgrade? please any help is appreciated as I'm really thinking in purchasing the bus.

I think a quick online search for "Maxxforce 7 problems" or "Maxxforce 7 lawsuit" will answer your question. I recently drove one of these from OK to AZ, then on to California. I had to keep the transmission in 4th to keep the rpms up high, so the low oil pressure warning wouldn't activate. I did do an oil change in AZ, for the customer, and we collected a sample for him to get analyzed. I'm guessing they'll find the oil was diluted with diesel. The oil change helped on the second leg of the trip...a bit...especially in the morning when the temp was lower...but midday the issue returned.

SO, this seems to be a fairly common issue, but no clear answer on how to resolve this issue. One of the connectors came right off, the other just spins. I can tell the nut zert is just spinning in the ECM, I have tried every trick I know to get the bolt loose but no luck. I thought about drilling the head of the bolt out but I can see that there is a retainer inside the connector to hold the bolt when the ecm is removed. Will that retainer slide off the shaft with moderate pressure once the head off the bolt is removed? Or is there some other trick I haven't though of yet? If I remove the ECM and split the case can I get to the backside of the zert?

I'm thinking quite a bit could have changed in the 8 years since he started this thread.

OP hasn't replied to this thread once. Some help, huh? Others have answered here and there, and newbies bump it with their questions regularly because they think it's the place to put them.
