Maaxforce 7 vs DT466

Hi All - got a line on a bus and have a general question. I am familiar with the DT466 and was the engine I was targeting, but found a bus with a Maaxforce 7.

Now - all emissions comments aside, what's your experience with either engine, and what are the pro/cons on each engine.

Although the MF7 is smaller, I have been reading that it pulls more HP/Torque than the DT466, which doesn't make any sense, since the DT466 is not available in the CE200 and is only an option in the CE300.

Anyone know if the MF7 is a wetsleeve engine?

Thanks...

Here's a picture of the engine - can't read what model - and I only see the one valve cover gasket but I am not familiar enough with everything so make a clear determination.

emissions aside, IC had a real quality control problem with the Maxxforce engines. They're more than a little unpopular.

Not many of us are going to have any firsthand experience with them as they're just money pits man.

I work in the over the road industry and can tell you dont walk but run from anything that has the words maxforce on it. I suffered for 3 years in a fleet with maxforce 13 engines.

im a huge fan of the navistar Diesel V8's.. but the Maxxforce7 is one I would even run from...

the MaxxForce DT. is a fully emissions complaint DT-466.. while its better than the MF7, its much less reliable than the DT-466... I often see the MF7 equipped busses coming up fairly cheap for sale... I talk to quite a few people who are school bus drivers and trans directors.. for newer busses that have failed MF7's some districts choose to Repower their busses and install Cummins engines....

As a professional driver (and worked for Ryder for a bit), it was my observation the MaxxForce engine-equipped trucks frequently had check-engine issues which put them into limp mode. More often than not, it was emissions related, and the computers were programmed to put it into limp mode whenever it didn't sense everything within specs. Failed sensor? Limp mode. Broken wire? Limp mode. Clogged exhaust part? Limp mode. More than one truck had DEF and/or coolant getting into the exhaust (where it wasn't supposed to be) and replacement parts were in the thousands of $$.
