Your bus DOES have a vim... it is the big black box in the rear engine compartment, where the rear key switch is...that is the vim!

Have you tried starting it from rear rear key switch???

Not too long ago, 3-5 months ago, there was a post where a guy could start his bus from the back and not the front. He had found a burnt diode that is nested inside the vim within the front/rear key switch circuitry.

If your bus is starting via the way you jumped it at leAst the ecm is functioning.

The TCM should be sandwiched between the tranny and bus frame, at least on my bus it is, a 99 RE Amtrak.

It’s not a short...with a short you would blow a fuse or burn some wires.
It is more likely and “open” wire somewhere, probably broken at a connector or some other stress point along the run.

Follow these instructions, you can’t go wrong.

Also. Look at the attachments on post #3.

And here is the VIM wiring diagrams..

I also included the diode assembly I spoke about earlier.
The diode assembly, only have to look at that if your bus starts from one end but not the other.
I do not believe it has anything to do with the dark push pad panel but hey, I am not a mechanic!

I also added a pic of what went bad in my bus, a broken wire inside one of the connectors next to the tranny.
This is why I suggested to unplug the connectors, do a visual inspection and then re-seat the connector. The pin itself had broken apart, inside the connector housing!

That was how I found my broken wire.

Those are close but not right. 26 is 27. Its yellow and its a ground. It is supposed to be 5 or 12v i don't remember right now. That would indicate the tcm is fried but not being sure ( because the diagram is different) i cant say.
Ill xheck these new pinouts and see if its correct
