Oil pan removal/inspection

Well guys once more I’m going to see if you have any advice or suggestions inspecting the crank, rods, and what I can see of the pistons. Anything I need to do while I have the oil pan off? Should I pull one of the rod caps off to look at the bearing or main caps? Or should I just leave it all alone?

I know it would be nice to pressurize the coolant systems and turn the engine over manually to look for leaks in the sleeves, but I don’t have the radiator in to do that yet.

Originally when I started working on the mechanical side of things, I wanted to fix anything that I saw that needed attention plus any leaks. Originally I had a small amount of oil in the antifreeze, and I’m hoping it’s from the oil cooler, which I’m planning on replacing, I haven’t yet.

So far, some here already know I have removed the front timing cover, resealed everything, all new gaskets and most fastens. I replaced the water pump and thermostat, bought new motor mounts as well, new front and rear main seals. I bought a new radiator, but haven’t installed that yet. Will be replacing the belt and tensioner, along with the fan clutch.

So far when I pulled the pan off I saw that the crank had a painted 4 digit number on it, 5783, I’m not sure if that’s from factory or has something been done to it. I didn’t see any metal in the pan, and nothing odd that I could tell. Those that don’t know it’s a DT466E.

Any advice or information is definitely appreciated and everyone has been a big help so far!

Sorry for the long post, was just trying to give as much info as I can remember.

I ended up just cleaning everything up good, replaced the oil pickup tube gasket and put it back on. Hopefully I won’t have to do an inframe and pull it off again.

looks like i am late to this thread?
sorry.
did anyone or did you while you had the pan off?
have someone roll the motor over by hand and check the play in the rod bearings?
looking good regardless.
keep on keepin on.

No, I just spent some time looking over everything, looking for signs of issues. Everything looked alright but I don’t think that tells you much just from looks.

We’ll see if I have any fluid mixing issues after I get everything back together. If I do, I’m expecting the only thing left it could be is the cylinder liners. I’ll do an inframe if I have too.
