Oil pump pickup tube

Has anyone ever seen/heard of the sump pickup tubes cracking/breaking in International DT engines?
I’ve read this is a common problem, but I’ve never seen it anywhere in the real world, even as a full time mechanic.

I've heard of it but never saw one. I assumed in the ones that it happened they were being used in mining, dump truck, or off-road use.
