Part Number Sources
I have looked high and low trying to find a source for part numbers and diagrams. I have a 1996 mechanical fuel injection DT466 that had one of the fuel lines between the low pressure pump and the fuel filter assembly start leaking. I cannot find a parts diagram anywhere on line to get a part number, so I call one dealer who does online business, and they promptly email me a diagram so I can identify the line I need. They then quote me $ 172.58 for the line. BUT-- they never divulge the actual part numbers....)
Meanwhile-- I get impatient and go to my local (45 miles one way) dealer, and buy the line since they have it in stock-- for $ 197.23 plus tax. At this point-- the dealer I drove to looked up the other fuel line, and gave me the part numbers for both lines. When I get home I google the part numbers-- and the line I paid $197 for is on ebay NOS for $65. I guess I can return my high priced fuel line-- but my point is I could save all this heartache if I had a source for part numbers. On light duty pickups-- there are all kinds of sources for part numbers online-- and it makes it easy to shop around-- but the truck guys seem to guard this info to keep that from happening.
