Potential Purchase .... DT530 with an issue
It's a 1999 AmTran pusher with a DT530 engine, 118000 miles.
It is described as running well but with a rough idle.
Seller says it is showing a code ... SID 4 FMI 5. #4 inj current less than normal.
Is this likely to be an expensive nightmare, or something as simple as an injector relay, or wiring fault?
I'm not expecting a diagnosis, just hoping for some educated guesses.

Could be an injector harness.

That's tough to say. Could be some damage to the injector harness or injector solenoid I suppose. But with only 118k miles on it I would feel comfortable believing that the engine is in otherwise good shape. Have you driven it yourself?

Not yet.
The guy from the school district seems genuine. They bought the bus as an activity bus, but have since bought a coach so this one is for sale. This one has only been used as a spare for the last 10 years hence the low mileage.
It may go well outside my price range even with the rough idle. I'll keep an eye on it and probably bid if it stays low. It's 250 miles away, so an easy drive if I want to see it myself

only used as a spare for 10 years.. makes me wonder if they just never put much fuel in it in 10 years and the rough idle is because the fuel is wasted .

The rough idle won't stop me bidding if the price stays low.

If it's got the 530, and an md3060, good highway gears, and is in relatively good shape, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. You have a trouble code for an injector, and a rough idle(most likely a misfire) that makes it a pretty simple fix. Even if it's not, it still has a lot of desirable options on it.
