Ready to purchase a bus. Need Advice!

Hey Everyone,

New guy here. Not sure if this if this is the best place to post this question. We are looking to purchase our first bus this week. The bus will primarily be used to transport our band and equipment around. We tour mostly around the midwest. Most of the travel being on the highway. We have out grown our ford van and discovered that this was a cheap way to get a bigger vehicle.
I have been lurking and learning for the past couple of weeks. Im still not sure what engine, trans, and gear ratio would be best. The bus we are looking to purchase is a 93 Amtran/genesis flat nose with 90k miles. The price is right were I need it to be. It has the DT466, Mt643, and a rear gear ratio of 4:76. From what I have been reading this is somewhere in the middle of the road for highway use, and a good combo of engine and trans. Im not to concerned about speed, but more concerned with gas mileage. Would this combination be suitable for our use our should I look for something with an even better gearing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have to make our decision today.

Thanks, Paul

Did you get it yet?? .. I am jealous .. you found my dream bus .. lol .. the local "bus jockeys" I hang around all say that is the setup you want, and is the reason I am being so rotten-picky about buying anything else (that and, I have had the chance to drive a few around some lots and in the local area) .. though my buddies also think the larger Cummins is not a bad way to go either (and I have driven two of those and they are not bad either) ..

.. if the price is right, it's hard to go wrong with that rig ..
