Source for ring and pinion
IM at my end here guys, getting really pissed by the absence of answers to a simple request. Everyone I call... I get a "Uuuuuuuh" . I have a F155S. It has a 4.33 I need something closer to a 3.33. Im not worried about power. I just need to know where to get the ring and pinion.

Which Rearend
Which differential brand and model do you have?
Ive got a ring and pinion for a Dana-Spicer N190 which will fit the N175, N190, N210, N340 and N400, these all use the same ring and pinion.
Im trying to sell my set which is a 3.91.

I found my gear set by finding the Navistar part number then cross referencing to a Spicer/Dana gear number.
You might start by looking for the chassis manufacturer's gear part number.

I called Dana, they make NO gear smaller then a 4.33 for a F155S. They told me to try an aftermarket company... I paused for a second and responded, "The name of your site is danaaftermarket.com!"
I currently have the 039KG100-X ring and pinion in my diff. its only compatible with the F155S and F170S.

What does it take to install this gearset? Some older axles required pre-load, shims, and a lot to properly install the gears. Are these more installation friendly? In other words, something do-able in a driveway?

try calling weller truck parts with the ID tag info from your axles.. these guys specialize in axles / ring and pinions, rear diff, etc..
im actually working with them now on repairing / regearing my 1978 Superior which has an RA39 axle

3.33 is insanely high. I've got 3.42 with 10R's and its too high. I want 11R's but would have to regear.
If you can't find it through vanderhag's or some similar company you may have to settle for what you can get. I'd go no higher than 3.70ish, but good luck to you man.

I agree that 3.33 is insanely high - unless you have a legitimate, specific need for that ratio. Something like that in the Big Rig world wouldn't be out of line, but then again, those motors are happy purring along at 1200-1400 RPM The medium duty engines most of our buses have will be much happier at higher RPM's, at least under any load.

You may not find an aftermarket ring and pinion with higher gearing. If that axle has a removable carrier you may need to swap out the entire carrier to get a higher geared ring and pinion.

YUKON is the only company I know of that may make gears for that odler axle as new.. again I would try calling weller and seeing what they have...

IF I cant get a ring and pinion Ill keep that option in reserve. BUt in order to do that I need to know 100% what I can put in there as far as a complete carrier...

I work with heavy truck parts, and RV's every day. I called all my gear guys, they all had the same reply....change to a different diff or different transmission. There are a lot of narrow rear ends from the same time period as you F155, Pro gear and transmission in Orlando (Paul) says you could get down to 3:35 with an older Rockwell diff.

I don't have the means to change out the diff... FAR too heavy for me to attempt. Plus I have no way of safely lifting the bus.

well apparently they are right... look at page 90 of this document...

it shows the tallest gearset made for that axle is a 4.33, chances are there is no carrier break for a taller gear...
im not sure what all diffs might fit your housing.. perhaps you can fit a different 3rd member and axle shafts into your housing? alot of these housings are similar.. my guess is on the heavier duty stuff they assume the use of larger tires where taller gears cause more problems than they help...

Well, my mechanic said he can swap out the diffs if I can get a compatible one... so I have a 97 international 3800 hydrolic brakes. Anyone know one with between a 3.25 and a 3.38 that will fit?
