swapping to a ford pcm and harness

I have a chance to pick up a 97 powerstroke pcm,icm and wiring harness to put on my t444e. This is so I can more easily tune the motor. My bus is a 1999 with a allison 545 tranny that i plan on upgrading. Thoughts and input positive or negative.

CadillacKid is the guru on this kind of thing. Among other things I'm thinking that the ford PCM won't control your 545 trans properly.

I seem to recall that the T444e and Ford computers were different ... plugs, connectors, OBDII vs J(whatever the round plug is) and just as importantly, your instrument cluster operation. That's a *LOT* of hardware that's incompatible. You'll probably be much better off changing the settings in your IH computer. The computer link isn't free, but IH released the software (which is free) for this.

IH engineers spent a lot of time and resources perfecting the HP settings for the engine's torque curves and RPM limits. How much more do you need other than to set the engine to a given HP rating? I would *NOT* change the engine top RPM! (The Ford computer is set a bit higher, the engines *ARE* different to allow for this! The Ford head gaskets are thicker to allow for rod stretch at this RPM.) You do *NOT* want to rev the T444e to the 3000 or so the Fords allow!
