T444E EFRC Codes 1994-1997 3Box
I'm starting this thread for those seeking EFRC Rating codes for the T444E 3box Models for 1994-1997. Others may reply with their engines codes if they have that information. If you don't have a list of engines, if you look at your own engines label there should be an EFRC code and a HP value. Feel free to post your individual EFRC and HP Values and Bus year and type to help us build a database of these for reference should someone ever need them.

I typed the first one, then copied and pasted and changed the values as I went down the list. Took me about an hour to do. Will be helpful to anyone who searches here for this info and has a 3 Box.

What the heck is EFRC Rating and why?? I don't want to googoo it.

Engine Family Rating Code. As far as I know it's how international and Ford programs certain engine tuning. They are already preprogrammed values in the ECM on fuel mixture and Turbo power to use at idle and full load. For example if the code is set for a 175HP model of the engine you cannot set Horse power values beyond what the active EFRC is set to. So even if you set to 230 HP, the ECM will ignore it because it thinks your Engine is only a 175 HP machine. So essentially telling the ECM what engine is being run. By setting the ECM for a T444E engine which early models can handle up to 210 HP without a hardware upgrade you change the EFRC code to a 210HP model and then it will honor and use the HP value of 210 when you set it. Which the ECM then uses higher air flow of the turbo at idle and full load. And also uses more fuel slightly to reach those HPs.

Going to chime in. The ECM does not adjust boost pressure. We have dumb turbos unlike vgt turbos.
Our turbos use waste energy. A HP parameter(been a while here so I may get aftermarket tuner mixed in here) adjust injection timing, pule width and hpop pressure.
To try to explain.....pulling knowledge from OBS Ford. Injectors come in single shots. They flow 90cc. Stock tune delivers max 2600psi with a pulse width of 1.7 ms(I think). What I recall you will flow 75cc fuel. The waste energy from the fuel burnt will spool the turbo to xx psi. Now if you increase pulse width and increase the hpop to 3000psi you can now empty the plunger in the injector and use all 90cc of fuel. This extra fuel being burned creates more energy with more waste exhaust energy coming out of the exhaust spooling the turbo faster and harder. Then there is timing involved.
Power can be increased another way without a tune and that's increasing injector size. I could install AC code injectors for the T444e high torque variant but it will do little to nothing for my OBS. While these injectors can flow 160cc fuel, they are unable to because of the same pw and oil pressure of the programing. You can tune for a longer pulse width injection and increase your oil pressure delivery further to inject more fuel then the OEM 90cc injectors...OR...with out programing you can go with larger nozzle tips. With larger nozzle tips the fuel now has the ability to flow more with the same stock tune. With that said it's a dirty way of creating more power with out a tune. Most people in the community does a tune for the injectors they have to make power. From what I remember, that's how they list injectors.....160/0 or 160/30. The 160 is cc of fuel the last number 30 was a 30% increase in nozzle size. There is all kinds of injectors variations made in the aftermatket.
Just adding this info. for a little understanding on how the extra power is generated. It's been years so I maybe incorrect on something. Forgotten more then what I remember.

Yeah I don’t claim to be an expert. I’m learning.
One thing I’ve noticed is that with the comparing all the data with the T444E here is that it’s mostly the same hardware. The 1996 and 1997 have a different turbo part number and uses waste gates but when comparing the original T444E, the HP gains are achieved by an increase in intake manifold pressure at idle and at full load which seems controlled by the ECM.
It this is likely being done as you say by letting more fuel in to increase the kPa values and all the other values mostly remain the same. With the same hardware. The ECM on 3box uses the IDM module to control the fuel amount. On the one box it’s the same but the ECM takes care of the IDM processes. Or what I think is happening is there is still an IDM but just a second chip on the same PCB because all the DTM codes work the same as on the 3box so from a software standpoint it works the same but on a different hardware platform with a faster network protocol. It’s virtually a network but in the same PCB.

The IDM on the 3 box system is only performing the function to what the ECM tells it too. Think of the ECM as the boss. The IDM is the worker. The one box system for all intensive purposes just moved the IDM inside the same ECM shell to the best of my knowledge
Speaking from Ford, all IDM's are inter changeable. The OBS if I recall correctly had 100 volt IDM's. The super duty had 120 volt IDM's. Aftermarket from what I remember can mod them to 140volt IDM's. You physically have desoilder and resoilder a different resistor to the PCB to increase or decrease the voltage. Their is nothing programmable on the IDM for the 3 box.
I'm currently running 120 volt super duty IDM on my OBS truck.

sorry ive been on a bus trip so didnt see this..
then I wrote a post i forgot to actually hit send..
these codes are listed in the 94-97 diagnostice manual thats floating around on these forums..
they are here for those that wish to turn up the horsepower on their T444E using the "god mode" servicemaxx..
the T444E is in classes(family) of engines.. there were standard torque and high torque versions as well as california vs federal 49 state versions..
the ECM has calibrations for all of the models stored in it from the factory... the EFRC code selects wich calibration (power) to use..
as omni mentioned boost is controlled by how much fuel is burned.. the computer doesnt touch the turbo or its wastegate...
98% of the T444E out there were built as federal 49 state with a non wastegated turbo. and max out at 210 HP in the settings..
what happens if you use an EFRC not meant for your engine? ie set a 250 HP code on a 175 HP engine? you go fast.. **BUT** you also can run yout EGT up as the combo isnt meant for your turbo and injectors..
going up to 210 from 175 is a decently safe bet.. although your AT545 might complain a little..
I **HIGHLY** suggest if you are going to "play" then you install an EGT gauge. I prefer to install the sensor PRE TURBO in the exhaust manifold right behind the #8 cylinder.. why here? this tends to be the Hottest point to measure on these engines.. ylinder #6 sits directly in front of #8 and fires directly before #8 so you get the hottest exhaust gase reasings generally here.. so you can see if you get in high temp trouble you can back out of your throttle..
aong with changing the EFRC you need to set the 'Horsepower' parameter to match what the HP is in the book and set the parameter 'rated RPM' to the same RPM as in the book..
installing AC code injectors is OK however if you are using a variant of the T444E that used split shot AB or AD injectors then you wont get alot without a tune because the tiing for split shot vs single shot (AC) is different..
it tends to work much better on older engines that have 'AA' code injectors..
nikitis prob has AA injecotrs being a federal 1996 model... AC injectors would be a nice upgrade..
in my case I had AD in mine and I went to a performance 15% nozzle AD injecotr and use an orion tuner to properly use those injectors without overfueling too much..
these EFRC codes generally work on the newer single box systems as well as 3 box.

It did complain lol. Got my first slippage. Trying to go into 2nd, it just straight up did not connect. Engine was spinning and bus going no where. I thought I broke the transmission, but I came to a complete stop in the middle lane. Found out my hazzard lights don't want to work any longer. (They did work the other day when I tested, so now gotta figure that one out.)
Once I came to a complete stop, waited 2 mins in case it was a heat thing. She picked right back up in 1st, and also into 2nd and drove okay back home. I was probably being a bit dramatic, but the bus had zero drive when it happened. The Engine HP worked good though. I set to 2141, 210 HP, 2300 RPM.
After that event, I set it back to 175 HP 2151 (the original EFRC that was on it), I've yet to try to drive it again to see if it still slips, but it does crank and run with it set back. I think the HP upgrade will have to wait until I get a new Transmission which I want to do but kind of scared to pull the trigger on. I have no problem buying one, and the TCM, and using the AU device, but I'm still concerned about wiring even though I know how in concept to do it, I've never actually done a transmission upgrade, let alone on a bus. It's a bit more than I may can do on my own. I don't have the tools to remove the existing and lift a new one in. And if I pay a guy to do it, not sure they'd know how to do it even if I explained the concept to them. Not sure how to proceed on the transmission upgrade. Any advice?
If it were just simply bolting one on I could probably do that, but wiring on this bus is Wonky.

I just have to add for others that may do this.
94-96 49 state had single shot injectors. California had split shot injectors.
97 and on came with split shot injectors.
Side note: I believe 97 to 99 had 120 or 130cc split shot injectors. 2000 and newer had 140cc injectors.
Regardless, if changing the code. Be mindful of the code entered for the injectors you have.

and another thing to add is if you install performance split shot injectors or run your tune up, if your HPOP is weak you may very well set 333 codes...
performance single shot injectors are noisier and can feel a nit raspier on acceleration but use less oil volume to work tyan split shots.. performance split shots really should be paired with an upgraded HPOP such as a adrenaline HPOP.. esp if you are going to run an aggressive tune like an orion or the 230 / 250 HP factory tunes from 97+

I didn't mention the HPOP because if your just running a hotter factory tune the pump should handle the changes you make.
But you are for sure correct in that regard, bigger injectors beyond a stage one, need to go with more oil.
I know the OBS trucks run a 15 degree pump and the super duties went to the 17 degree hpop. I'm strictly assuming the same applies to the t444e when they switched over to the split shots.
I believe some have installed a 17 degree super duty hpop on their OBS trucks to run hot injectors. I've also heard/read other install single shot injectors on their super duties so they can live happily with the stock 17 degree pump.
I kinda like the sound of my single shot injectors and with a straight pipe it sure had a mean bark in the exhaust. I have since installed a muffler back on. Guess I'm getting old. I do enjoy the sound on the bus with the split shot. Does sound a little more "refined". Believe the main goal of the split shot was to reduce Nox gas overall.
Regardless, I should go search for this unlocked servicemaxx pro that I have read on here.

I actually dont know if the T444E got the 17* HPOP or not.. alotof things on the T444E were behind the powerstroke... like the T444E never was sold in a version that ran above 2600/2700 RPM.. the standard torque version finally got a better turbo in its last gen (2002.5).. with i think a .85AR and a wastegate verses te big 1.0 AR on the non HT versions..
the max horsepower offered in the 444E was 250 in the highest HT version.. (there was a marine 444E with 330 but thats a lot different engine than the truck version)... ive never seen one only heard about them.

I did a quick search. Looks like t444e also got 17 degree oil pumps possibly.
At the very least. One should bolt up.

Some of the 1997 T444E's I listed above have a 1.11AR.

I'm thinking in 97 a waste gated turbo became available for the standard torque. The HT turbos were nice Likely came with different fuel curves.
My bus currently has 195 HP that's not listed here.
