T444e knocking after new ipr
‘97 t444e here. I installed a new ipr and icp sensor and now it is running rough, knocking at idle, and giving off white smoke. Unplugging the icp doesn’t change anything. I filled the hpop reservoir and added oil under the icp. What to do next? Thanks.

Does it start immediately?
Can it be that you introduced air in the high pressure oil system?
After I dumped mine on its side it ran rough with white smoke for a while. It also took 10 sec of cranking time.
Mine cleared up after taking it on a 3 mile run.
Good luck,
Johan

I definitely introduced air. I had two oil lines removed. It starts after about 10 seconds of cranking- which is longer than before. I’ve run it in the driveway for about 5 minutes (brought up to operating temp) but it’s still the same. I noticed one of the ipr wires is pulled out of its contact quite a ways but is still making contact. Maybe I should run it on the road?

Well sounds similar to mine. When running on the road you need to flow a lot more fuel and thus a lot more high pressure oil. Pull a couple of wheelies and donuts and it will flush out.
Good luck,
Johan

I'm still having issues with this thing. Starts ok. Sounds great at first (until about 10 seconds after start up when rpms go up to high idle). Then it starts knocking and running rough. It throttles up fine and stops knocking, but idles awful.
This is a 97 international 4700 with the t444e. There is no diagnostic button. What should I be purchasing for a scan tool/code reader?? Thanks. Joel

Are you sure there is no diagnostic button? I have a 97 B3800 with a T444e and there is a button somewhere around the J1708 port. It's difficult to see since it's way under the dash.
At any rate, it can be used to blink out codes using the dash lights.
I don't remember the whole sequence. Hold the button and turn the key to "on" without starting, I think.

I'm going to have to look closer to see if there is a button hiding somewhere. Any suggestions on what to get for a scanner? I'm new to them.

On the cheaper side you can get a Bluefire. https://bluefire-llc.com/
It will let you scan codes, but it doesn't display all the neat data that some more expensive scanners show (HPOP pressure for instance). Also, you can't program the ECM with this one.
Cadillackid has a scanner that can program as well. You could search the forums for what he uses. I can't recall what it is called.

Well there is a hole that says engine diagnostics above it! But no button! I looked at the wiring behind the hole and it looks like possibly the remains of a button with a black and a white wire.

Bummer! I haven't looked at mine, but if it's only two wires in any momentary switch should be able to replace it, I reckon. I'll go take a look..

Thanks for taking the time to check that out for me. I have access to a parts truck that I will cut that switch out of.
Is there any chance that I put the wrong ipr in this truck? The one I put in was Ford Motorcraft part number CM-5013.

Access to a parts truck, eh? Would that parts truck happen to have a driver's side fiberglass fender for sale?

I did the same thing after weeks of trying everything I could think of even pulling the HPOP a couple more times. I finally came to the conclusion that the only thing I did was remove the HPOP and replace Seals due to the oil leak and also replaced the IPR and iCP. So how fixed the problem was I took out the ipr I bought on Amazon and replaced it with my old one. Now it runs like a top and no oil leak. Hope this helps I do believe it will.

Update: I sprayed off the old ipr with contact cleaner and compressed air and I put it back in. The miss is gone, and it runs like it did before. It’s not missing, starts good, and not showing any codes. The problem is that it’s still down on power compared to how it used to be. I’ve changed the fuel filter, icp, and cps. What should I do next??

Well that is good trouble shooting. Making a problem repeatable is half of the work. How difficult is the t444e to outfit with ipr duty cycle. Hpop pressure and so on like in the torque pro app? Chris is the man for these questions.
Good luck, johan

Something that I did notice was when I was removing the new ipr that I put in, it unscrewed from the front “nose” part (the end with the holes and small o ring). I had to pull that part out with my fingers. So what I’m thinking is that it was never tight to begin with and caused it to protrude further in than the original. I’m wondering if that is why it ran so awful with the new one?
