T444e Turbo wastegate

I have a 1996 3800 with 7.3l. I purchased the bus a month back and have been going through it. Today I noticed the turbo has a wastegate valve down above fuel pump. Nothing is connected to the wastegate valve. Just the threaded female end.
I read the 94to96 didn't utilize a wastegate. So is this a later model turbo? Not sure what to do from here. Weld the Gate open? Find a new turbo with the full wastegate assembly? Find an older turbo without wastegate valve? Wasn't sure who to ask so I came here.

that looks like an EBPV (exhaust backpressure valve).. its used as a warm-up aid.. cold weather start the valve limits exhaust flow increasing backpressure to create hotter cylinder temps till the engine warms up... result is reduced power during the initial warmup period...

waste-gates were used on the high torque versions of the 444E...

Kid is right.

If you live in a cold climate it does have some benefit but if you generally only use it in warm temps. then it just sits there doing nothing.

I ended up just turning mine off in the programing. My rig is just a 3 season rig.

My OBS Ford F250 has it too. In really cold temps like -30C I can pull off the highway and drive around town. Pull up to a red light and the valve will begin closing. It can become a bit of a nuisance.

While it is nice for warm ups, if it begins leaking oil, I'll replace it with a turbo pedestal that has no EBP function and remove the valve.

My bus was built in Texas without it .I live in Ohio and have never had an issue with warm ups even in minus 15f and I’m running the cooler 180 thermostat (factory is 192).
