the A2000 requires electronics to work... rolesville bought a bus with exactly the same engine as his but with the desired transmission and moved it all over, electronics , wiring, engine computer and all.. ..
I did an allison 1000 swap into my red bus and did it where I sourced all my own parts and did my own computer programming... my integration probably works a little more refined than rolesville's and i have 6 gears instead of 5 but it required a LOT more work and more $$.. the main advantage being that I have a pretty heavily built up transmission designed to handle the HotRodding of the engine that im doiing to that bus.. my needs and wants were different...

100% agree with Chris, and it was his Redbyrd thread that was the inspiration. However as he states I indeed "cheated" as I do not have his programming skills Nor his funds
I looked for the simplest solution. But it was one thing that Chris pointed out to me was the key to the puzzle in the beginning... He said "98 or newer it will have a 3 pin J1939 connector capped off under the hood .. its a 3 pin connector up next to the computer on the passenger side. and has a yellow / green/ and black wire.. this is necessary for an A2000 to operate ..." My bus had this.
On page #2 of this thread we discussed my "mechanical" options and it seems that for an MT643 I needed a "ring" that was all but impossible to get due to my bellhousing size. Again on a DT466 I am unsure, maybe that bolts right up?
In the end knowing I did not have anything to loses I started to look for buses with the same motor, and the desired transmission.
BUT!! This is where it got weird. As you read I DID NOT have to worry about all the connections on the trans for the TCM... My Allison 2000 came with adapters since the donor bus I bought came off the line with an AT545 harness, but they put in the A-2000 instead (or later?)
So it was almost like a "kit" to upgrade an AT545 bus to an A-2000. It really wasn't as "custom" as Chris's at all, not even close. But again, I got lucky, I had no idea these things existed.
So the transmission end I did not have to figure out anything. I did have a few challenges with the Range inhibit and Economy mode connections behind the dash and also had some challenges figuring out the check trans light. But in the end the only programming required was IH dealer re-set my TCM to know I had the lower axle ratio than the donor.
I did swap the TCM's as well.
It was all pretty damn near plug and play, KINDA
Again I did a LOT of careful research, and I also got a bit lucky.
So if you want to attempt to go my route then you would be looking an identical motor but the A-2000.. You would need to get familiar with the 4 plugs on the AT545 and when you look at the A-2000 are there adapters or are the plugs "small" I can post pics Sunday when I get back home of said adapters to look out for.
so the same advice I was given would apply - " Need trans, TCM, harness, cooler lines, TCM mounting bracket, and anything else you can get. A2000 is 3/4 inch longer than 545 so you may need to shorten driveshaft "
I did not have to shorten driveshafts...
HOWEVER your computer and motor is different so I have no idea.
Research heavy.... ask lots of dumb questions... FB groups also helped me...as well as calls to dealership and buying them lunch, being friendly lol... etc
Chris I still hope you swing through one day so I can see yours, and vice versa. We have finally moved back into the house since the fire.
