What is this coolant sensor?

Engine is a 1996 DT466. In replacing the exhaust manifold on the bus, I got a little aggressive with the wrench and smacked into this unknown sensor, which promptly busted. I wasn't in a time and place where I could do the job correctly, so tried gluing the plastic housing together with JB Weld but it didn't hold up. IIRC there was a spring inside the plastic casing.
Anywho, I backed it out of the hole and coolant started trickling out so I assume its some sort of coolant sensor? From googling around it seems like maybe its a Engine Coolant Temperature sensor, though the temp gauge in the cab still functions. Maybe its the overheat sensor?
Location is passenger side, toward the front of the engine. There appear to be 2 of them, this is the upper one.
Anyone know what replacement part I should be ordering?

if I remember right that one is the oil / water warning Light / beeper.. and the 2 wire sensor is the dash gauge.

the one wire is a switch that turns on the lamp in the upper left corner of the dash panel and sets off a Beeeep-BeeeeP.. if the engine over-temps..
little slower than the air brake beeper...

Thanks for that. But dang, I can find a million 2-wire sensors online but the only 1-wire one at TruckID is out of stock and they don't have any info on when they'll be back in stock. Is there a preferred parts supplier that you use or should I probably call the dealer?

I need to see what that sensor is on mine.. I was trying to find my VIN to look it uo in repairlink.. but they just said "contact dealer".. (my DEV bus DT360 has the same switch on it your bus does).. im guessing it will be a dealer contact with the last 8 of your VIN to get the part number..

im Guessing it is a coolant temp switch.. since it had a spring in it that likely is the temperature spring.. on mostof those if you ground the wire then the light would come on.. the 2 eire sensor would be the dash gauge as the reference is more important so they use 2 wires..

Depends on the sensor .. that’s a switch and not a sensor . So when coolant temp reaches a setpoint . 230 or 235 I think is that one it grounds the lead which triggers the alarm and light. Most all 2 wire sensors are thermistors and not switches
