Which t444e fuel questions

2 questions:

1) does the t444e on a rear engine bus use a booster pump for fuel or is it just the high pressure injection pump? bus year 2000

2) which line is feed/return - green or black (see attachment)

I need to tee into the feed line (assuming there is no booster pump) to feed my diesel heater.

As far as I know, all T444e have a cam-driven mechanical low-pressure fuel pump. It is located in the valley of the engine block.

Looks something like this:

All that said, I would be more inclined to run a dedicated line for your heater.

You will *NOT* want to mess with the engine portion of the fuel plumbing to run a diesel heater! Tie in further back closer to the fuel tank. Big trucks do this all the time, the Tee is usually within a short distance of the fuel tanks, sometimes the fitting is even screwed right into the tank pickup fitting (also goes for some Gen-sets).

on my bus the diesel tank included a separate fitting that unscrews where you can install a ssecond fuel pickup .. I installed a second pickup that is a couple inches higher than the factory pickup so my diesel heater cant run my bus out of gas.. my diesel heater has its own fuel pump clear fuel filter so I can check it without taking it out.

Thanks for the help jazty - Any idea which one is feed and which is return in the picture?

I know its a bad idea to tap into the engines fuel line but my fuel tank is 100% inaccessible without dropping the entire thing. There is only a small gap in the frame where I can stick my hand through to reach the level sensor plug and feel the fittings for the lines. Short of drilling into the side of the tank and having someone tig a fitting onto it (which around here is gonna cost a small fortune) I won't be getting my own line anytime soon.

Not sure about which port is what on the fuel pump. You'll have to dig up a diagram.

Before doing any of that, are you absolutely sure there is no sensible way to connect closer to the tank? All buses I've seen have an access port through the floor above the fuel tanks.

PS: if you fill out your bus information in your profile people will be better able to assist you.

im learning that apparently not all busses have the access hole.. ive heard from a couple people that say the mechanics had to drill an access hole in the floor of their route busses to replace the sender.. maybe it was a spec thing by the school?

Could be optional. Maybe by the time we get our buses the mechanics have already had their way with them!

I relocated the tank on my bus. Cut a new access hole for the new location. Didn't take much to cut a new hole and slap a chunk of steel over it with 4 screws. Now if I need to get to the top of the tank on the road it only takes a screw driver.

Why not use the tank that came with the diesel heater?

I do this on both my bus and my 5th wheel... I used the tank came with the heater...

no issues.

Airdog universal lift pump

Do you guys know anyone that has installed the airdog Universal lift pump? I cant find anywhere good instructions for where to hook it up to. Airdog doesn't provide. But they say it hooks up with the cam pump.
