Hey all! I recently bought a 2006 Bluebird vision, It has a cat c7, Allison 2500, The issue I'm having is the rear diff. Is making a whining sound at 45 mph and 65mph and has a fair amount of slop when I have it in neteral and turn the driveline it will spin a good 1 1/2 " of free play. What is "Normal" for these rear ends? And yes the rear end is full of oil and clean! Any help on this issue is much welcome!!!
I'm no bus mechanic but that sounds like a worn out ring and pinion, like it ran dry at some point and was refilled. Lots of experts around here to help you out. Good luck with it
Ya, seems a bit much, I suspect the bus has alot more miles than it shows (100,250) I'm just trying to find out if just swapping out a good used unit is worth the $550. Or if this is an easy fix?
I just replaced the rear diff in my GMC chassis for the same thing, over 55mph and ~20 minute into a drive when everything got warm I would get a really weird noise through the drive train under load. If I lifted the throttle just a little it would go away.
I paid $900 for a reman assembly with no core. I also swapped ratios to get a little more pull power as I tow a trailer and wanted to boogie up hills.
I did not have a problem. I wanted different gear ratio. Inspected, shipped, cost me $800. I was told this gear ratio 3.73 with a “tone ring” for ABS - anti lock brakes did not exist. I spent a week looking.
