CAT 3126 Coolant Maintenance

Hey, quick question (hopefully) for anybody that may have been through this already. What kind of coolant / antifreeze goes in a Blue Bird All American RE with a CAT 3126? Peak has Fleet Charge which is SCA precharged and Peak Final Charge which says works in ALL HD systems including SCR systems. My local NAPA has both of these on sale right now so I was gonna stock up but don't know what I need. I dont know what SCA and SCR mean. Also, any idea how many gallons it holds, I know that will vary with length of heater hoses and heater configuration etc.

" I dont know what SCA and SCR mean."

search those terms with the word "coolant anti-freeze" and you'll get good links.

Before buying anything determine what's actually in your bus now. When was cooling system maintenance last done?

There are color charts and other clues as to what you might have in your system.

And yeah, without details of how many heaters your bus has and where I can only say you'll have several gallons of coolant which isn't very helpful...

Thanks for the quick response, I was planning on a complete flush and fill because I've had the bus 3 yrs and don't know the history before that.

Sound thinking but might not be necessary yet -- continue your research, figure out what flavor of anti-freeze is currently in play, and test it.

for example, my maintenance neglected bus must have had the anti-freeze changed right before the "no-maintenance" program started 'cause my coolants still good -- this is after 5 years of no maintenance love...

I just bought a CAT 3126 and had it checked over by a diesel mechanic. They said the coolant was "red" variety. I don't know if that helps, but you should see a sightglass that will show the color of the coolant.
