Re: Cat 3208 coolant drain?

One on each side of the block just above the transition from verticle to 45% of the y shape, they should be brass and 9/16'' hex, use a 6 point socket to prevent rounding off the corners, their may also be a drain plug on the oil cooler just above the oil filters. With the cost of coolant/anti-freeze it would be wise to seriously consider all new hoses, thermostats and a professional radiator service/cleaning and testing. figure on at least 10 gallons of coolant for the engine and radiator.

Re: Cat 3208 coolant drain?

no guts, no glory. put a 6 point 9/16'' socket on an extension and take the plugs out one at a time, have a 5 gal bucket close by to catch the coolant, you may have to use a screwdriver to poke a hole after you remove the plugs if their is a buildup of sludge in the engine.

good luck

Re: Cat 3208 coolant drain?

That is NOT a bad price on the DEAC. It's gotta be nice to know that for all practical purposes you will never have to worry about SCAs. By the time you buy regular coolant, an initial SCA charge, and SCA coolant filters I don't think you're saving any money doing it the old fashioned way either. What filter are you running? Cat?
