Clearaire Horizon Delete

Hi,

I am in the process to purchase a 1996 Thomas 40Ft rear engine, getting it for a great price. It has a Cat 3116 and seems to run great. However it is retrofitted with a Clearaire Horizon DPF and I am wondering if anyone knows what it takes to delete it. I am planning on converting to an RV and don't want something restricting the engine.

Thanks!

Call the Calif air resources board and ask them. That was a CARB retrofit and is registered with them in the diesel truck and bus program. As an rv it may be exempt and may be able to be removed. Heavy motor homes are now in the smog check program too like cars and pickups.

I was more asking what it takes to physically delete the system. All the research I have done indicates it should be no problem (from a regulation standpoint) as it will be registered as an RV. I am wondering how mechanically difficult it will be to remove. Thanks.

Here is a link to an article I read about SB 210. https://www.rvtravel.com/california-...sions-testing/ I still have friends and family there that all have large RV's and they are not happy.

physicaly removing a DPF retrofit is pretty easy.. they dont modify the vehicle's existing computer system to install them.. the DPF may have its own built in ReGen mechanism so there may be a fuel line going to it and some wires for sensors.. the ones i have taken off for people (they arent required in ohio) have been just unbolt it and fix the exhaust back together with some pipes and go.
