Help with engine classification
Looking at bus with a ER31268230 engine MY 2000. Assuming it is a 3126B but don’t know what 8230 means? Can someone educate me on this?? Thanks.

Probably Caterpillar's CPL (Critical Parts List) prefix. Basically tells you turbo/injector size and HP rating. Check CAT's website and see if they have a decoder that lets you get the relevant info.

Not sure given to me by seller. If it is B230, would that signify 230 hp?

There you go. I looked at this and was almost positive we were missing something. It has to be a B
And the 230 would be the hp rating.
