Re: Information about the Cat 3208

So, there is hope for the 3208 afterall. He reccomends a turbo's 3-ring piston for the 3208NA. Does anyone know if this was done to the REMAN(ufactured) engines?

Re: Information Cat 3208

Every engine rebuilder has a different process in any engine rebuild. Engine piston sleeves are available for about any engine. The "Kitty" 3208 has no removable sleeves but sleeves can be fitted to the block. Rebuilding and diesel engine is very expensive and I mostly look for a used engine. There are lots of reasonable priced used engines on the market place. Most bus do not use turbo engines that can be found at some truck salvage place. If an engine is needed,
do lots of looking and inquiring. Frank

Re: Information about the Cat 3208

Rebuilt sleeved parent bore engines are typically not highly desired. It isn't the same as a wet sleeved factory engine.
The 3208 will die a slow death and become more and more rare. Even the 2 stroke DDs are being seen less and less and they were meant to be overhauled indefinately for the most part.
You see the 3208s in alot of boats but when many repower they upgrade to a more powerful and efficient engine like the Yanmars for not alot more money. They just weren't meant to be around forever.
