thanks for the encouragement!

the fan clutch came off with 4 bolts. the fan clutch wrenches were useless. it just unbolted like booyah says. i think the center is still pressed in with some bearings.
the fan clutch is missing the wires and mounting bracket that have sheared off the back side.



and now here is the block with the 2 pulleys off and getting cleaned up.



off to the parts store to return the useless tool, and see if they still have that belt i got a few months ago and returned.

The center is pressed on with two sets of ball bearings. I believe there might also be a snap ring as well. Anyways, it should easily press out the back side and the new clutch press on. Newer busses have the slots instead of holes for the bolts so don't forget to insert the bolts before you press it all back together.

new fan clutch on the way.

the replacement is a Horton EC450

it looks like it has slots for the bolts, i may just get 4 new bolts and let that old clutch be.

im running an EC450 in my red bus... I connected it to a dakota digital fan controller.. this way i can adjust the temp it kicks on and off.. and a manual switch to spin it any time I want.

if you waste an EC450, dont throw it away, there are replacements parts made for these things..

the wiring circuit is pretty simple. it goes from power to a temp sensor to the fan and then to ground. i think i will connect the transmission cooler fan to the circuit so they work together. i also may wire it to a switch so i can turn it on manually.

i've had such poor luck with my toyota's tpms, that i dont think i'd ever pay money for a tpms.

one sensor went bad, they have all (5) been replaced at $120 a pop, and it has still never worked since that first one went out. i've gone through 2 sets of tires since that first one broke around 100,000 miles. had a low tire light on for the last 80k miles.

my 2cents.

very nice!

i stopped at a loves last week and the fuel lane had crazy looking inflation thing on the island. there was an air outlet at every tire, with cameras and some sort of monitoring system.

i tried the air on 2 tires, but it was confusing.

I bought the caps in 115 PSI (?) rating. Might have been 110 PSI but they are available in 85-120 (at least). I don't think it was from this particular link. Mine were Amazon most likely.

good news / bad news

the alternator came a day early - yeah

the belt from the gates reference is too long - booo

anyway, the parts store will have 2 belts for me to try tomorrow.

i got the new alternator back on, tensioner in the right spot, and fan pulley re-attached. waitinf for the fan clutch and belts (thursday) and radiator (friday) so i can camp (saturday).

Dang......i'm having a stoner moment.

the original belt i took was 56"

gates book says its a 58" belt. makes sense, since my wrong pulley placement will add a coupole of inches to the the belt.
i fix the pulley and get the longer belt. still too long.

my original belt was 56" - the belt i replaced it with eventually was like 56 1/4".

so now i got a feeling that i will have changed the pulley setup and not changed the length. i'll try the belt i was using before i try another from the autoparts store.

my stoner moment is changing the pulley and the belt appears the same length. that doesnt make sense.

well second try.

the belt i ran before is just right. 56 and 1/4"

this is a head scratcher to me.....

this is the belt that was on when the pulley was wrong.

Phfft, the difference in length is next to nothing. Well within the range of the tensioner. If you were measuring to the .001", you wouldn't be close. Within a 1/4" easy. Quit sweating.

i was confused!!

ok

i am very proud of these two items, so i'm just going to show them off.



the fan clutch is exactly the same, down to the stickers on it.

here it is installed and i wired the trans fan to come on with the fan clutch. no bypass switch, however.



and the fan reinstalled




everythings on schedule to make the camping trip this weekend. radiator and charge air come back tomorrow. then re-assemble radiators and bumper and camp.

Ok your latest belt pic.. if your belt is too short it means you must wind the spring up in the tensioner tighter than with a longer belt , this results in more belt tension. That tensioner looks wound up tight, you may want to test the tension before you put that back together.
