Allison Transmission Controller Question

There isn't a sub-forum, so I'm putting this here.

There are two different electronic controllers for the Allison transmissions (the ones with the push buttons).

The earlier one has a single LED digit showing gear range selected.

The later one has two digits, one showing the range selected, and the other showing gear achieved.

Does anyone know if they are interchangeable?

i do not think so, the single digit is a wtec 3.
the double digit is gen 4 and 5. Do you need one? I have a spare single digit.
since mine is wtec 3. The tcm is separate and should read
"tid3" on it.

Mine is working fine, I was just wondering if there was an easy upgrade.

I haven't dug far enough into the bus to get the numbers off the transmission. Bus was manufactured in May '98. I don't know when Allison switched models.

The tid3 is representative of generation 3. It will be also written on the transmission tag.

Is the TCM attached to the transmission, and if so, what is the large box behind the dash that the controller wires into?

The tcm is most likely not attched to the transmission. Mine is next to the driver seat. It has 3 connectors and an allison lable.

That's for Kleenex. You can remove it.

On it Rusty. I'm sure I'll have you to thank for the weight saving.
