Still no joy on the wiring. I may try some more, but wherever it’s spliced may be inaccessible at this point. I believe the engine was given a major overhaul in the 2010 timeframe, and I suspect that it may have been rewired at that time while many of the ancillaries were removed. The replacement black wires go as far back into the harness as I can access currently.

However, I went ahead and installed the aftermarket VDO sender and that seems to be working well when disconnecting the wiring from the sender lug on the gauge and running a new wire from the sender to the gauge. It reads a little higher than what I saw on the mechanical test gauge, but would still be useful.
