Is dash fault code retrieval possible?

I recently purchased a 99 bluebird freightliner with a Cummins 24v 5.9. Drove it home about 500 miles with no problems and drove it another 100 miles today and threw a ce light. It didn’t do much but lost a little power on hills a couple of times. I found a 6 pin connector but I don’t have anything to read the code. Is there a way to manually pull this code from the dash? There is an engine check button to the left of steering wheel and I’ve tried tons of different methods to get the ce light to blink a code with no luck, is it even possible with this? I’ve held it in and started and it seems to erase, I’ve held it in and turned the key to one then let it go and it did nothing. Tried cycling ignition on and off Avery number of combinations and nothing. According to the bluebird vantage it’s a model SB CV 230?? Here’s pics of the dash if it helps. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Does the check engine stay lit?
If so, you can buy a scanguage d, blue fire or nexiq to read the code.

If it flicks on intermittently, change your fuel filters and see if it goes away.. they have a fuel pressure sensor that will light up or water in fuel.

Appreciate the reply! When I turn the vehicle on, the light is off. But it either turns on shortly after starting up or when I rev the engine up. I called freightliner cs number and they said I can’t retrieve codes from dash so I have no idea what the engine check button is for. I ordered the scan gauge d today, but there was a shop nearby that scanned it for me and there were two active codes but he didn’t know what it meant. I changed the fuel filters but it didn’t help. Here are the codes that they pulled.

Auxiliary equipment sensor n. 3 input signal (oem switch)

Engine synchronization error, fuel pump control module:data erratic, intermittent or incorrect.
