P- pumping a 24 valve.

OK this is my first time posting a Thread so bear with me. I'm building a Toy Hauler out of my 2002 Freightliner 5.9 5 speed. I'm thinking of changing it to a P-pump but have no idea how that will work with the computer. I know there are people on here that may know I'm kind of need to know quickly as I have a line on two 12 valves for cheep. I'm not realy a fan of computer control just trying to make it something I can fix on the side of the road. Thanks Robin

I'm not a fan of computer controlled engines.
But IMO- if it aint broke don't fix it.
I've not heard any of my Cummins owning friends complain about the computer leaving them on the side of the road.

Anytime I've been on the side of the road with my cummins, it's been a 15-20 minute fix. Whether it be permanent or temporary. Fixed a fuel cut off solenoid with a rubber bungie once.

I f anyone would know I thought it would be you! I just keep hearing all things bad about the VP-44. The P pump might get weak but it should still run. A VP-44 quit that's were your parked. Was just wanting to know if all the other stuff would still work without the input from the VP-44.

Can't say I've heard of anyone swapping the inline for the VP but guess anything is possible. You should chat some of the guys over on 4BTswaps.com. More 4 & 6 BT savvy there than anywhere on the net.

It's a common swap on 24 valve motors in off road trucks and pulling trucks. I'm just don't know what problems I will have with the computer as in the gauges, ABS and OBD. The P-Pump is all mechanical so you can turn up the fuel and RPMs if needed. With the VP-44 your not able to turn up the HP. or RPM and when the electronics go bad your done time to buy a 1200.00 pump.
