water pump questions

howdy all,

hey, i'm chasing some leaks on my motor and it looks like my water pump is the source of a fluid leak.

nothing leaks when parked, but the liquid streaks and dirt show that some leaks while it runs.
so i took it apart to fix up what leaks. i thought there was an oil leak too but i dont thinks so anymore.

i took the water pump off and the gasket is way to big to go back together, no way, jose.

is there a special pump for buses? or any 5.9 water pump?

also, i was considering doing the killer dowel pin, but the front cover looks like it was form-a-gasketed on. so i kinda think someone was in there already. idk, any advice?

im sure i've replaced my tstat with a wrong one. if someone has the link for the right one, i'd appreciate it. the one i put in was different than what i took out. i put in a 180 stat a few years ago.

AFAIK no special pump, they were the same from the beginning until they went to rear gear train. Should be an o-ring that fits over a boss in the casting, and a cut out in the block to receive said o-ring on that side. Definitely looks like the wrong O-ring for sure.

Thermostat should be a "high-flow" or equal pressure design, the parts jockeys will give you one that looks like a standard auto thermostat that doesn't flow near the same amount of water. Using the lower flow one can cause overheating. I had a post on here with pictures and part numbers showing the difference between the two. I don't have that info at hand at the moment.

Seeing silicone on the cover tells me there's a good chance someone already did the kdp mod. If it was mine I'd break it loose to be sure, right stuff rtv is cheap compared to ruining the engine. But with the rtv present, I wouldn't lose sleep over it either.
