What is this?

Hey all,

We seem to have developed a small coolant leak. It doesn’t leak any visible fluid while running, but we’ve noticed a small puddle forms about 4 hours after shutting the engine down.

The leak seems to be centered around a coupling you can see in these pictures. The coupling has a part on it that looks like a screw mechanism of some sort. Anyone know what it is or what function it serves?

Thanks for any input!

looks like an air bleeder placed at the Bottom of the system!!.. likely used as a drain valve because thats not where youd place a air bleeder.. perhaps they just needed a coupling.. if it were mine id replace the whole line with a continuous piece unless it is crazy long on each side..

the clamps likely just need a few clicks tighter. . those dont look like constant tension clamps ..

Thanks for the input. I thought about just replacing that section with one piece of hose all together as well, just wasn't sure if the screw was necessary for something that I wasn't aware of.

For now though I think I'll see what a little tightening of the clamps does...

I think a decent brass coupling and some good hose clamps would put that to rest but replacing that section seems like the right thing to do.

As long as I was futzing with the clamps, I would go ahead and disconnect the joint and see if it's anything other than just a splice nipple.
