Meetup?

Are there ever any skoolie meetups?
I want to buy one and convert it/ buy a converted one and live full time (stationary -in Oregon, not for traveling) but I don’t know much about the process/ regulations etc. I’d love to talk to some folks in person about everything!
I’m in Portland, but can travel pretty much anywhere to meet up

I do have to ask why a bus if its just going to sit? seems a lot of other options for easier living stationary than old bus..

I would agree with Cadilackid. If you show up at an RV park or trailer park with your bus hooked up to a wrecker, would anyone let you stay? If you buy your own land in Oregon you would have to jump through some hoops to live on it. Oregon has this mechanism called a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) that can be impossible to get in some places. If I was was going to live in a bus, it would run, reliably. Last year most of the town of Phoenix burned down, including several trailer parks, I mean completely. If your bus ran you could escape at least. Making a good skoolie is a lot of work and it isn't cheap. You say you live in Portland, any place other than Portland would be better. If you aren't in a position to build your own skoolie, consider buying one already done.


A mobile home or camper or RV would be better than a non-running school bus.

A Tiny home that is even pre-built would be my first choice if I am in your position.

I am also planning (more hoping) to live in my skoolie in a stationary fashion, but I want it to be mobile since I can't expect any stationary living situation in my area to last forever. It's a self-propelled tiny home, essentially.

There are Skoolie meetups all over the place. Skoolie U.P. in Michigan at the end of July, Descend on Bend in Oregon beginning of September, Northwest Nomads event in Oregon middle of September, 2 Skooliepalooza events in Arizona.. another one in Utah.... search Facebook for events

Last week in Eugene Oregon, LawEnforcementOfficials cleared a rancid gang of squatters from the streets near Wal*Mart.
.
One abandoned vehicle was a Twinkie-shape bus, probably ten-twenty years old, about 40'.
Some addicts were squatting in it, so it probably requires fumigation and a haz-mat scrub.
.
If you think you could use it, it may be yours for the price of a tow.

Even before I bought a bus, I always dreamed of buying an Oscar Meyer Weinermobile. But a Twinkie Bus would be cool, too.

The last Crown "twinkie" bus was 32 years ago. I prefer to describe a Crown as shaped like a loaf of bread.

I'm in Colorado in a mostly stationary skoolie that only moves every few years. I find meetup groups most easily on Facebook. There are lots of local and regional local skoolie groups there and they share events.
There's bound to be an event in your area this summer!
