working cannabis harvest
i know, i know,
hardly bus related, but it is.
i rolled my bus down to southern Colorado and am living / working this season's harvest on a legal cannabis farm.
this is big harvest #4 on farm number 3 over the last 5 years for me. the last 2 farms put in electric hookups for me, and i bet this one will end up doing so too.
this is a small, 7 acre grow, about 7000 plants.
we are cutting, shucking and hanging about 1000lbs of wet weed a day. that will dry down to 10% ~ around 100lbs/dried product per day.
drive safe!

reminds me of harvesting then drying tobacco. Very labor intensive, plants were hand cut with a machete then hung in a barn to dry. Every other board of the barn walls was hinged to facilitate the drying.
Tobacco was a huge cash crop for farmers in southern Maryland...that ended years ago, I doubt their are any tobacco farms today.

So you are a seasonal worker? I didn’t know this was a thing.
I’m always looking for an excuse to visit Colorado. Any tips on becoming a migrant worker?

i have become a migrant worker. this placed hired me for temp labor, but i since have applied for a permanent position with them.
harvest is hand work, labor intensive..... they posted the job on indeed and hired me thru that. In Colorado, you need a "med badge" which takes a couple of days to process and then any mj company can hire you. the badge costs about 100 dollars and then you're legit to work in the industry.
they say this job will last about a month, but at the pace we are going i expect 2.
i've been in the industry since 2009. other farms as a grower, this time is just labor / fun / easy money.

Thanks. I found the ad on index. My wife also found other farm opportunities spring and fall. We like the idea of intermittent work and getting to know an area by spending a few weeks/months living somewhere.
And of course it a bus adventure!
