Vehicle Name OSSAH old slow short and heavy
Year 1972
Make International Harvester, Superior Coach
Model LoadStar 1600
Length 20
1972 International Harvester, Superior Coach LoadStar 1600
1972 International Harvester, Superior Coach LoadStar 1600
Basic Info 304 gas
4 speed trans
5.29 rear gears (upgrade from 6.67 original)
255/70/22.5 tires (upgrade from7.50/20 tires)
Originally CA bus, was located off the road system in bush Alaska till conversion was completed, then barged back to the road system for road tripping down to lower 48 and back. Made it back pre-covid. Been off the road since.
Exterior
Roof rack, rear deck, Air horns, White roof paint, Vent fan in roof, Leveling jacks on front bumper. Crane on roof for spare tire.

Interior
Insulation, flooring, tongue and groove wall panels, upper cabinets, LED lights, Propane cook stove w/ oven, Cubic Mini wood stove, fold out couch/bed, fold up kitchen table, rotating passenger chair, custom shift knob, custom gas pedal, dual batteries (one crank and one deep cycle), roof vent with fan, cubby hole in compartment above windshield.

Customizations
No body changes other than holes for vent fan and stove pipe in roof.

Renovations and Repairs
All hoses, all gaskets, seals. Brake master cylinder and (4) front slave cylinders, new U-joints, new center bearing on driveshaft, rebuilt rear pumpkin with 5.29 gears (tallest I could find) and all new bearings and seals. Rebuilt heater box with new fan motors. Adjusted slop out of steering box.

Tow Vehicle
Motorcycle, or moped... working on that... but didn't have anything in tow for the 10,000 mile ride we took last time out.

Favorite Camping Destinations
Camped all the way from California to Alaska when I picked it up, and the Cassiar Highway was the best part of that trip. Better camp spots and lots of critters. Road was better suited for my (then) 52 mile/hr top end...
Now able to obtain speeds approaching 60 with the re-gear and we took it down through Canada October, 2019 and toured all around Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mex, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas.. back up to AK in February, 2020 precovid... Just barely. They are all good campspots in the bus! Grand Canyon is hard to beat.
